How to Prevent Age Spots
So age spots are something that you can avoid. Since they are a result of sun exposure all you have to do is reduce your sun exposure. Well, let’s take a look at some of the things that can be done to reduce exposure to the sun.
- Avoid direct contact with the sun from 10 am-2 pm: So why 10 am-2 pm? That’s obviously because that’s the period where there is a peak in sun intensity. Make sure that you try as much as you can to avoid doing outdoor activities during this time. If you would have to go out at all make sure you have an umbrella at least. This would help reduce UV rays that would be getting to you.
- Use sunscreen: Make sure that you use sunscreen before going out every day. The sunscreen should be applied 15-30 minutes before you go out. Make sure the sunscreen you are using is broad-spectrum. This is so that it would be able to protect the skin against both UVB and UVA light. Also, make sure that the SPF is at least 30. When applying sunscreen make sure you apply enough. And it should be reapplied every 2 hours. Most especially if you’re doing activities like swimming or if you’re sweating a lot.
- Cover up: Another way to protect your skin from UV light is by wearing clothes that are well-covering. Opt for woven clothing that would be able to cover both your legs and arms. You can also opt for a hat that would help protect against sunlight. Also, you can consider going for clothes that are designed to provide protection from the sun.
Well, age spots aren’t something to be worried about. But for confirmation, you can go see a doctor. Your doctor would be able to confirm if it’s something to be worried about or not.
When it comes to diagnosis just a visual examination is done. Usually, a dermatoscopy can be used for the checkup. This is a handheld device that helps examine parts of the skin.
If it’s not an age spot but a melanoma it would be a bit difficult to differentiate. If after checking your doctor isn’t so sure what it is then a biopsy would be requested. In this procedure, a part of the skin would be taken and sent to the lab. That is when the exact condition can be diagnosed.
